Leveraging

Recent studies show that over the next five to seven years, acute healthcare opportunities will grow at steady rates but with no major increases anticipated. However, the non-acute market is expected to boom, with growth rates in double digits -- expected to be at least 12 to 15 percent.  With changes in the national healthcare policy landscape, acute facilities are pushing their customers to non-acute facilities in an effort to free up valuable space and trim costs.

Global Shortage

Last October, during a business trip to Asia, it became quite evident that global conditions were going to dictate an unparalleled increase in raw material costs. These dramatic cost increases would severely impact not only the price of fabrics moving forward, but their availability as well. In the last five months since the publication of our first white paper on the subject, we have seen all of the above come true. Raw material and finished fabric prices are at all time record levels and shortages are rampant throughout the marketplace.

Update On Global Shortage

First and foremost, it has been documented that the price of cotton has gone down from its all time high.  To put this in its proper prospective, at its highest price, cotton was selling at $2.35 per pound.  As of June 1, 2011, on the New York Board of Trade Futures Exchange, cotton was selling at $1.65 per pound.  At one point last month, cotton was even as low as $1.44 per pound.  It is very important to recognize the fact that a year ago cotton was selling at $.70 per pound, so even with the lowest current prices, the price is still more than double what it was just a year ago.

Vp of Marketing

Surgical scrubs that resist microbes and repel blood. Tuxedos that can be tossed into the washing machine. Basketball undershorts that help players jump higher. Work clothing today not only has to look good, it is expected to make wearers perform better, be it a hospital, a hotel restaurant or a sports arena.

Global Textile

There has been much discussion of late concerning the future direction in the pricing of healthcare and image apparel textile products.  This is an exceedingly complex subject, fully dependent on ever changing global conditions, encompassing both supply and demand equations.  This update will discuss the following topics:

  • Cotton prices
  • Polyester prices
  • Global price supports
  • Inflationary pressures
  • Currency valuation
  • Potential hazards
  • Global economic conditions
